Returning to South Africa with Basso Safaris: A Life-Changing Adventure in Conservation and Friendship

By Keith Denoncourt

Sunsets overlooking Botswana are absolutely breathtaking. Enjoying them each night, and reflecting on our daily adventures, is truly one of my favorite memories.

Going to South Africa for my second time was just as thrilling, and exciting, as the first time that I went. This time, however it was for a slightly different purpose. The last time that I went to Basso Safaris it was for a personal Hunting Conservation Safaris adventure with my wife Lisa. I was very Blessed to have harvested four African animals, as well as enjoy Marakele National Park, as well as the Adventure with Elephants Conservation Park. Our adventures even supported the local orphanage. That adventure forever changed our lives. South Africa is so amazing that once you experience it for the first time, the positive memories will stay with you forever. I am Blessed that Basso Safaris offers such a wide variety of super cool adventures. I could never be bored. My journey of returning annually to visit has only just begun. This time it is just to revisit great friends, create new memories with some amazing friends, the fellowship of experiencing adventures together, and the true enjoyment of bringing these adventures to life with Non Typical Nation. Stay tuned on Wild TV for some really amazing adventures.

Boris and Lezanne, of Basso Safaris, take great pride in personalizing your adventure. The staff truly set standards in Hospitality, Dedication, and Professionalism. This, along with experiencing the South African history, culture, and geography of this area , should be on everyone’s to do list. The adventure can be customized for your personal needs so that you can experience it in a manner that best suits you, and your family. I personally love being met, and refreshed, at the O.R. Tambo Airport in Johannesburg by Boris and Lezanne. It sets a very Professional tone of care and attention that will last with you for your entire adventure. This time, the Non Typical Nation Team was driven by Boris personally straight out the main Basso Safaris Lodge. It is roughly a three hour refreshing drive. There are refreshment stops along the way. The abundance of new wildlife, culture and geography make the drive go by very fast. At the main Basso Safaris Lodge you will be received, and refreshed by the entire staff. Your bags will be delivered to your personally prepared, and individualized room. Being received in such a Professional manner is truly the standard set at Basso Safaris. It is however recommended that if you have to experience a long flight to get to there that you plan a “refreshment day” in Johannesburg before you travel out to the Basso Safaris Lodge. This planned rest break in Johannesburg may be needed after such a long flight. 4 star Accommodations in Johannesburg can easily be arranged for you.

If you harvested animals during your adventure. Basso Safaris will take care of the paperwork and deliver the Trophies to your Shipper for you. They help you arrange to have your Trophies shipped back home. Dave Booth Taxidermy is our recommended Taxidermist in Canada. You will be updated as to the status of your Trophies along the way.

As mentioned this was my second trip to South Africa with Basso Safaris. Yes, it is so amazing that I went this time just to be with friends on their great adventure. Even better, I have already made plans to return in 2026. If ever I can be of assistance, and help bring a South African adventure to life for you, or your family, please do not hesitate to give me a shout at 780-805-0973 or send me an email at kadenoncourt@gmail.com.

Thank you for supporting wildlife, conservation and Non Profit Conservation groups!

Basso Safaris has an amazing staff !! Caroline took great pride in being in making us feel like we were at home. Her personal care and attention was beyond amazing.

Boris and Lezanne are great friends and great people. I am truly Blessed to have been to their location last year. They truly represent everything that I stand for not only Professionally, but Personally as well. If you ever wish to book an adventure with them, never hesitate to give me a call at 780-805-0973 or send me an email at kadenoncourt@gmail.com

The views from the Dining Lodge are amazing. Several exotic animals can be viewed right from the Lodge. The sites, smells and colors of this area are truly wonderfully unique. It is the perfect way to start the day.

The main Lodge is made to make us feel right at home. Being greeted from the entire Basso Safaris Team when we arrive, and being personally received daily, is a heartwarming, and a personally refreshing experience.

The morning views at the Lodge are amazing. It is however the songs from the birds that really bring the mornings to life.

The personal care and attention is unmatched. The details behind being received back home at the Lodge daily, makes this place really hard to leave. I am already missing this place. The good news is that I have already starting to make plans to go back in 2026.

Teamwork is the essence of success. I am truly Blessed to have been there again with such an amazing team ! Boris and his team really went above and beyond. His Basso Safaris team truly sets the standard of Professionalism, Dedication and Hospitality. It was truly a pleasure to be part of this adventure.

Yes I spoil Boris’s dogs. Guilty as charged . Tikka is such a valued asset at the Lodge, that I take pride in caring for her in the Bucky. I absolutely love her personality and how well behaved she is.

Travelling to South Africa should be on everyone’s to do list . Boris is presenting Amy and Brody with permanent mementos of their adventure. These customized Knives, and Skullies will be cherished for all times!

A knife is more than a tool. It is sign of Trust and Friendship. The friendship and trust that was established will always be remembered when I hold this treasured memory of South Africa.

The meals that are prepared truly have to be experienced to be cherished in the manner they deserve. Boris and his team take great pride in providing Professionally prepared fresh harvests for their guests. This meal is freshly fire roasted Sable and Impala.

The staff take great care and pride in preparing the wild game for meals. As well the other food is distributed to the local families, schools and orphanage’s. Nothing is wasted.

Life moments needs to be celebrated and cherished. Taking the time in life to pause, and reflect on our daily adventures, makes these South African memories deeply resonate in our hearts.

Sunsets overlooking Botswana never cease to amaze me. It is absolutely one of the best ways of enjoying your day before you head back the Lodge.
